Company information

Lightspeed Systems (Europe) Limited is a private company limited by shares registered in England and Wales. The registered office is 169 New London Road, Chelmsford, Essex, United Kingdom, CM2 0AE. Its principle place of business is Phoenix Business Park, Christopher Martin Road, Basildon, Essex, SS14 3EZ.

1.1
Basis of preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in compliance with the provisions of FRS 102, Section 1A, 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland'.

The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention unless otherwise specified within these accounting policies and in accordance with Financial Reporting Standard 102, the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland and the Companies Act 2006.

These financial statements have been rounded to the nearest £1.

1.2
Revenue

Revenue is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable for services rendered, stated net of discounts and of Value Added Tax.

Revenue from the rendering of services is measured by reference to the stage of completion of the service transaction at the end of the reporting period provided that the outcome can be reliably estimated. When the outcome cannot be reliably estimated, revenue is recognised only to the extent that expenses recognised are recoverable.

1.3
Property, plant and equipment

Tangible assets are initially recorded at cost, and is subsequently stated at cost less any accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses.

Depreciation is calculated so as to write off the cost or valuation of an asset, less its residual value, over the useful economic life of that asset as follows:

Short leasehold property
Straight line over the life of the lease
Plant and machinery
20% straight line
Fixtures, fittings and equipment
20% straight line

If there is an indication that there has been a significant change in depreciation rate, useful life or residual value of tangible assets, the depreciation is revised prospectively to reflect the new estimates.

1.4
Impairment of non-current assets

A review for indicators of impairment is carried out at each reporting date, with the recoverable amount being estimated where such indicators exist. Where the carrying value exceeds the recoverable amount, the asset is impaired accordingly. Prior impairments are also reviewed for possible reversal at each reporting date.

When it is not possible to estimate the recoverable amount of an individual asset, an estimate is made of the recoverable amount of the cash-generating unit to which the asset belongs. The cash-generating unit is the smallest identifiable group of assets that includes the asset and generates cash inflows that are largely independent of the cash inflows from other assets or groups of assets.

Debt instruments that are payable or receivable within one year, typically trade payables or receivables, are measured, initially and subsequently, at the undiscounted amount of the cash or other consideration, expected to be paid or received.

1.6
Taxation

The taxation expense represents the aggregate amount of current tax recognised in the reporting period. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity. In this case, tax is recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity, respectively.

Current tax

Current tax is recognised on taxable profit for the current and past periods. Current tax is measured at the amounts of tax expected to pay or recover using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted at the reporting date.

1.7

1.8

1.9

Contract asset commission

The company capitalises commission payments to the company's direct sales personnel. These are shown as contract assets in note 6. These payments are based on agreed commission percentages to sales personals. The capitalised commission is released to the profit and loss account over the duration of contracts with customers.

2
Judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty

The preparation of financial statements requires management and the Board of Directors to make estimates and judgments that affect reported amounts of assets, liabilities, revenues and expenses, and related disclosure of deferred revenue and contract asset commission. Revenue from contracts with customers is calculated on a pro-rata basis based on the period for which sales order are being raised. Management applies judgement in estimating the timing and amount of revenue recognition to ensure compliance with the revenue recognition policy. Actual results may differ from these estimates under different assumptions or conditions, significantly impacting the company's earnings and financial position.
