Basis of preparation of financial statements
|
The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention unless otherwise specified within these accounting policies and in accordance with Financial Reporting Standard 102, the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and the Republic of Ireland and the Companies Act 2006. The disclosure requirements of Section 1A of FRS 102 have been applied other than where additional disclosure is required to show a true and fair view.
The company's functional and presentation currency is pound sterling.
The following principal accounting policies have been applied:
Where share options are awarded to employees and are exercisable only upon satisfaction of a non market performance condition, the fair value of the options at the grant date is recognised as an expense in profit or loss when it becomes probable that the performance condition will be met.
The number of equity instruments expected to vest is reassessed at each reporting date based on the likelihood of the performance condition being satisfied. The cumulative expense recognised reflects the number of options that are ultimately expected to vest.
As the options in issue are not subject to market conditions or service conditions, the fair value does not incorporate market-based inputs or any time-based vesting assumptions.
Non-vesting conditions, if applicable, are incorporated into the fair value of the award at the grant date and are not subsequently adjusted.
Where the terms of the options are modified prior to satisfaction of the performance condition, any incremental fair value arising from the modification, measured as the difference between the fair value immediately before and after the modification, is recognised as an additional expense when it becomes probable that the modified condition will be met.
Exceptional items are transactions that fall within the ordinary activities of the Company but are presented separately due to their size or incidence.
Investments in subsidiaries are measured at cost less accumulated impairment.
