Tan Cerdd CIC is a Black-led music and cultural organisation based in Cardiff, Wales. Our mission is to celebrate, promote and amplify Black Welsh music, Black artists, the African and Caribbean diaspora, and the diverse musical traditions that contribute to Wales's cultural identity. During the financial year ending 30 November 2025, Tan Cerdd continued to address inequalities in access to professional opportunities, representation and career development for Black and ethnically diverse musicians. Our work focused on live music, community participation, artist development, cultural exchange and partnerships across Wales. - Brecon Jazz Festival 2025 – World Music Stage On 10 August 2025, Tan Cerdd curated and delivered a programme of live music at Bethel Square as part of Brecon Jazz Festival. The event attracted an estimated audience of 800 people and provided a professional performance platform for Black and diverse artists. The programme helped introduce artists and audiences to a wider range of musical styles and cultural influences, while increasing representation within a major Welsh music festival. It also supported opportunities for collaboration, professional development and connections between musicians and audiences. - Neo-Soul Jam Sessions – Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff Tan Cerdd continued developing its Neo-Soul Jam programme, providing opportunities for musicians, vocalists and emerging artists to perform, collaborate and develop their skills in a supportive live music environment. These sessions encouraged musical participation, improvisation, networking and peer learning. They helped strengthen connections within the local music community and created accessible opportunities for artists who may otherwise face barriers to professional performance and development. - Soul in the Garden – Cardiff Music City Collaboration On 14 October 2025, Tan Cerdd delivered Soul in the Garden in collaboration with Cardiff Music City, featuring performances and contributions from artists within our network. The project supported Black music and cultural expression in Cardiff, creating opportunities for artists to reach new audiences and contribute to the city's live music programme. It also strengthened collaborative relationships between independent artists, music organisations and local cultural partners. - Children of Zeus – Cardiff Music City Programme In December 2024, Tan Cerdd presented a live music event featuring Children of Zeus alongside Welsh supporting artists as part of its Cardiff Music City partnership. The event provided opportunities for Welsh artists to perform alongside established UK musicians, increasing their visibility and helping develop professional connections beyond Wales. - Partnerships, Artist Development and Sector Representation Throughout the reporting period, Tan Cerdd continued working with artists, musicians, cultural organisations and industry partners to support a more representative and sustainable music sector in Wales. Our activities included developing performance opportunities, facilitating connections between artists and music professionals, supporting collaborative projects and advocating for fairer access to resources and professional development. - Community Benefit and Impact Tan Cerdd's activities benefited Black and ethnically diverse musicians, emerging artists, local communities and wider audiences across Wales. Through our live events and collaborative programmes, we created opportunities for artistic participation, professional experience, cultural exchange and greater visibility for underrepresented musicians. Our work continued to challenge barriers to participation in the Welsh music industry while celebrating the contribution of Black music and culture to Wales's creative landscape. Tan Cerdd remains committed to developing sustainable opportunities for artists, strengthening partnerships and creating an inclusive music sector in which diverse communities can participate, develop and thrive.
Tan Cerdd CIC's principal stakeholders include Black and ethnically diverse musicians, emerging artists, music professionals, community participants, audiences, partner organisations and the wider communities in which we deliver our activities. Throughout the financial year, we maintained regular communication and engagement with artists, per-formers, collaborators and partner organisations through project planning, rehearsals, live events, informal discussions and ongoing professional relationships. Our engagement focused on understanding the barriers facing underrepresented artists, including limited access to professional performance opportunities, industry networks, career development, resources and sustained investment. Through our Neo-Soul Jam sessions, festival programming and collaborative events, we provided opportunities for musicians to participate, connect with other artists and share their experiences. Our partnerships with organisations including Cardiff Music City, Chapter Arts Centre and Brecon Jazz Festival also supported ongoing discussions about programming, audience engagement, artist development and the importance of diverse representation. These relationships informed our approach to developing accessible performance opportunities, supporting emerging artists, encouraging collaboration and strengthening connections between artists and established music organisations. Tan Cerdd will continue engaging with its stakeholders to identify emerging needs, respond to barriers within the sector and develop programmes that support equitable access to opportunities for Black and ethnically diverse musicians in Wales.
