MONAGHAN MEWS LTD

Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 31 January 2026

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is recognised at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable for goods and services provided in the normal course of business, and is shown net of VAT and other sales related taxes. The fair value of consideration takes into account trade discounts, settlement discounts and volume rebates. Turnover is recognised when the significant risks and rewards are considered to have been transferred to the customer.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost or valuation, net of depreciation and any provision for impairment. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, other than investment property and freehold land, at rates calculated to write off the cost or valuation, less estimated residual value, of each asset on a straightline or reducing balance basis over its expected useful life, as follows: Fixtures and fittings 5 years straight line Depreciation methods, useful lives and residual values are reviewed at each balance sheet date. The selection of these residual values and estimated lives requires the exercise of judgement. The directors are required to assess whether there is an indication of impairment to the carrying value of assets. In making that assessment, judgements are made in estimating value in use. The directors consider that the individual carrying values of assets are supportable by their value in use. The gain or loss arising on the disposal of an asset is determined as the difference between the sale proceeds and the carrying value of the asset, and is credited or charged to profit or loss.

    Other accounting policies

Investment property Investment property is carried at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. Cost includes the purchase price, Stamp Duty Land Tax and other directly attributable acquisition costs. Both properties are held on long leases and are maintained in good condition. The directors consider their residual value to be no lower than their carrying amount, so no depreciation is charged. At each reporting date, the directors assess whether there is any indication of impairment. Where the carrying amount exceeds the recoverable amount, an impairment loss is recognised in profit or loss. Restatement and impairment During the year, the directors found that relief from the 15% rate of Stamp Duty Land Tax had not been available on the purchase of either property. The additional SDLT of £145,000 has been included in the cost of the properties and corrected as a prior period error, and the comparative figures have been restated. Because of the higher cost, the carrying amounts exceeded the directors’ estimate of recoverable amount. Impairment losses of £98,401 were recognised in opening reserves at 1 February 2024, and £122,315 in the year ended 31 January 2025. No further impairment was required at 31 January 2026.
