During the financial year, MoMa Breastfeeding CIC benefited breastfeeding mothers, children and families by providing free breastfeeding support, educational resources and assistance with challenges faced by breastfeeding mothers. Its services included in-person and online support meetings, individual breastfeeding counselling and information for mothers and those supporting them. The company expanded its network by adding two support groups during the year, bringing the total to twelve face-to-face groups across eight areas of England and Wales, alongside online support meetings. Meetings were facilitated by breastfeeding counsellors, were free to attend and welcomed women who were pregnant or breastfeeding to any extent. These groups provided a regular opportunity for mothers to share experiences, receive practical and emotional support, and benefit from specialist advice and mutual support within their communities. Groups met monthly or fortnightly. For example, the Fylde Coast group reported attendance of between two and ten mothers at its fortnightly meetings, including some referred by healthcare professionals. The group also worked with other organisations supporting mothers, which referred women to MoMa Breastfeeding for support. Outside group meetings, breastfeeding counsellors provided free one-to-one support to mothers facing specific breastfeeding difficulties or challenges. This enabled mothers to receive individual guidance relevant to their circumstances, alongside the wider community support available through the groups. The company also made research, articles, guides and videos available to breastfeeding mothers and those supporting them. These resources provided educational benefits to mothers and families who might not otherwise have access to this information, helping families to support mothers and babies. Information shared through the website and social media contributed to wider community awareness and understanding of breastfeeding. Participation in national conferences and events, including directors’ contributions to panel discussions, raised awareness of breastfeeding support and the services offered by the company. In addition, the company engaged with services and employers on behalf of breastfeeding mothers experiencing difficulties in their daily lives. This included reminding employers of their obligations towards breastfeeding mothers and supporting mothers in protecting their rights.
MoMa Breastfeeding CIC’s main stakeholders are breastfeeding counsellors, mothers and children, families and local communities. During the financial year, the company consulted breastfeeding counsellors and mothers to inform its activities, policies and support services. Monthly online meetings were held with breastfeeding counsellors, providing an opportunity to share feedback and suggestions, including feedback from local mothers. Participation varied according to availability, and regular communication was maintained through Google Workspace. Feedback on the online training provided to volunteers led to a review of the training provider to ensure the training was fit for purpose. A video was produced to help volunteers navigate the training platform, and relevant feedback was discussed with the provider. Breastfeeding counsellors were consulted on the company’s policies and procedures, which were made available through Google Workspace. Requests and suggestions were incorporated, and all breastfeeding counsellors were invited to contribute when new policies were developed. Mothers contributed directly to the development of social media content through online advice and feedback, and to the development of the antenatal pilot through informal conversations. Their feedback was incorporated into the design of both. At a local level, breastfeeding counsellors also consulted mothers about their needs and acted on feedback within their support groups.
