During the financial year ending 31 August 2026, GateWay Language CIC delivered community-based activities supporting refugees, asylum seekers and other members of the local community in Warrington. The company’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: *Physical activity and wellbeing: The company delivers weekly Speak&Move sessions every Monday at Warrington Living Well Hub, which provides the venue free of charge. The sessions combine physical activity, wellbeing and social interaction in a supportive environment. The programme continues to operate, with funding secured until at least June 2027. *English language practice and social integration: Weekly English conversation activities take place every Friday at Bank Park Pavilion in Warrington, as part of the Friday gatherings for refugees organised by Warrington Asylum Seekers & Refugee Support Group. Approximately 20 people participate in the English activities each week, providing opportunities to practise communication skills, build confidence and develop social connections. *Access to structured English education: In partnership with Cheshire Language Academy, the company organised an ESOL course for nine participants from the group. All nine participants completed the course and passed, supporting their English language development and future opportunities in education, training and employment. Through these activities, Gateway Language CIC supports English language development, promotes physical and mental wellbeing, reduces social isolation and helps refugees and asylum seekers participate more fully in community life.
The company’s stakeholders include refugees, asylum seekers, women from immigrant communities in Warrington participating in Speak&Move, English language learners and other members of the local community, as well as local organisations supporting them. GateWay Language CIC engages with participants through informal conversations after sessions to understand their needs, gather feedback and identify opportunities to improve its activities. These conversations help the company understand the challenges participants face, including language barriers, social isolation, lack of confidence and access to physical activity and community support. The company works with Warrington Asylum Seekers & Refugee Support Group, Warrington Living Well Hub and Cheshire Language Academy to deliver accessible activities that respond to community needs. Feedback from participants and communication with partner organisations help inform the company’s approach to English language learning, physical activity, wellbeing and social integration.
