| 2. | STATEMENT OF COMPLIANCE |
| 3. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
Basis of preparing the financial statements
Significant judgements and estimates
Doubtful debts:
The company makes an estimate of the recoverable value of trade and other debtors. When assessing impairment of trade debtors , management considers factors including the current credit rating of the debtor, the ageing of the debtor and historical experience regarding payment history.
Work in progress:
Revenue and margins on ongoing installation contracts depend on estimates of stage of completion and total costs to complete. Management considers job-cost records, remaining labour and materials, agreed variations and anticipated rectification costs. Changes in these estimates may affect revenue, profit and the related contract balances.
Turnover
Turnover comprises consideration receivable for electrical installation and repair services, including materials supplied as part of those services, net of VAT and trade discounts. Revenue from services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion when the outcome can be estimated reliably, the consideration and costs can be measured reliably and recovery is probable. For short-duration repairs, completion of the work normally provides the appropriate measure of stage of completion.

Stocks
Stocks represents raw materials and are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for slowing and obsolete items.
Profit on long-term contracts is taken as the work is carried out if the final outcome can be assessed with reasonable certainty. The profit included is calculated on a prudent basis to reflect the proportion of the work carried out at the year end, by recording turnover and related costs as contract activity progresses. Turnover is calculated as that proportion of total contract value which costs incurred to date bear to total expected costs for that contract. Revenues derived from variations on contracts are recognised only when they have been accepted by the customer. Full provision is made for losses on all contracts in the year in which they are first forseen.
Financial instruments
Basic debt instruments are initially recognised at transaction price unless the arrangement constitutes a financing transaction, in which case they are measured at the present value of future payments discounted at a market rate for a similar instrument, subject to applicable FRS 102 exemptions. They are subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective-interest method. Short-term debtors and liabilities are measured at the undiscounted amount expected to be received or paid unless financing is material.
Financial assets are reviewed for objective evidence of impairment at each reporting date, with impairment losses recognised in profit or loss. Assets and liabilities are derecognised when the relevant FRS 102 criteria are met.
Taxation
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Profit and loss account, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.
Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all material timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
Hire purchase and leasing commitments
Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to profit or loss on a straight line basis over the period of the lease.
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits
Defined-contribution pension costs are charged to profit or loss as employees render the services giving rise to the contributions. Unpaid contributions are included in creditors. Short-term employee benefits, including wages and paid annual leave, are recognised as an expense and liability as the related service is provided; unused holiday entitlement is accrued where material

The directors have assessed the company’s ability to continue in operation for at least 12 months from the date of approval, taking account of subsequent trading, and working capital and the ability to meet liabilities as they fall due.
