Community Upskilling CIC Overview Community Upskilling CIC focuses on supporting marginalized individuals, particularly asylum seekers, refugees, and immigrants living in Manchester, who face challenges in integrating into their communities due to language barriers. Many of these individuals struggle to speak and write in English effectively, navigate online platforms, and often deal with stress related to isolation and employability issues. We run workshops and community outreach programs to equip individuals with essential digital and employability skills. Over the past year, from 2025 to 2026, Community Upskilling CIC has made a significant positive impact on the community. We have trained more than 500 individuals to improve their English language skills, with 200 achieving fluency and securing part-time jobs. Additionally, we have helped over 300 people overcome social exclusion and stabilize their well-being. Our programs have encouraged many to monitor their blood pressure, and we have trained numerous individuals in CPR through our Cardiovascular Education Event. While our primary focus remains on migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers from African heritage, we also extend our support to individuals from Asian backgrounds, including those from Afghanistan, Iran, and Oman. Many of these individuals struggle to integrate into society because of language and digital barriers, or a lack of local connections and support. Our inclusive approach aims to foster community cohesion amid Britain's prevailing climate of division toward migrants.
The company regularly consults stakeholders, primarily community members facing challenges related to English language skills, digital literacy, and overall well-being. These challenges often hinder their integration into the broader community. To better understand their needs, we conducted community consultations. After identifying these needs, we developed programs to gather feedback and assess progress toward our objectives. We have supported over 500 learners through our ESOL programs and regularly organize focus groups and outreach to engage community members.
