Shining Stars: Friends of Al Harah was incorporated in November 2024 to assist the work of Al Harah Theatre by fundraising in the UK and Europe to support its activities which have been significantly curtailed and made more difficult since October 2023. These activities include psychosocial programmes for children, professional tours, a children's festival and a site-specific theatre festival and other community projects. The main work of Shining Stars in the period of November 2024-2025 was to secure a bank account in the UK. Ben Harrison as one of the Directors led on this and after 9 attempts with various banks (a very long and time-consuming process) we finally secured an account with CAF Bank in January 2026. The company's activities in this period were regular meetings and consultations with the three directors, Ben Harrison, Phyllida Lloyd and David Greig and the General Manager of Al Harah, Marina Barham. We are now hopeful of raising some funds for the company and have a significant opportunity coming up; however this will fall within the accounting year Nov 2026-2027 so the company will be dormant again Nov 2025-2026.
We have had regular conversations and consultations with the main stakeholders- with Marina Barham and the rest of her team at Al Harah Theatre who will be the sole beneficiaries of the work of Shining Stars.
