Talks, presentations and promotion of ways to prevent dementia, given for groups and events - churches, community centres, health awareness days/health meals, stalls, market days and outdoor festivals. We reach a broad cross-section of the public.
1) Collaboration with community groups such as the People's Health Alliance and Dipak Dristi (Asian community) to foster locally-based information hubs in the Lancashire and Manchester areas. Providing signposting to locally trusted practitioners who are knowledgeable in root-cause analysis of dementia and treatment approaches. Participation in online interviews for the PHA in which I presented dementia prevention information and support to a wide range of listeners on the topic of root causes and what people can themselves do about their symptoms.
2) Research of the scientific literature to evaluate the root causes of dementia and what behaviour modification/ changes benefit people the most. Research into the latest innovations and devices for preventing dementia. Maintaining a database of the latest research findings of therapeutic approaches.
3) Taking on a Health Ambassador role in the People's Health Alliance to be on hand at local events for spontaneous conversations with participants, to distribute literature and answer any questions about dementia.
4)Participate in brain-storming for the implementation of a local health hub where free support and group health coaching on dementia prevention will be on offer.
5)Maintain an online social media presence to promote this topic through chats, posts and our website www.dementiapioneers.uk and WhatsApp.
6)Advertise dementia prevention at grass roots level by targeting ads in small local business publication (Go Local), newspaper (the Light) and an internet radio station (The English 909). Brian Gerrish of the UK Column promoted the book on the Column's internationally-watched News Extra show on August 11th, 2025.
7)Wrote,
published, marketed and distributed the Brain Health Picture Book. Presented a successful
Book Launch followed by well-attended talks during the Brain Health Road Show
at numerous venues around Lancashire. These events are well-presented and promoted
on the website, along with information from the book.

Our stakeholders are diverse and we meet them where they live. Events are held in the community so I have time to speak to them and learn what their needs are and how their needs have evolved since we last met. Our volunteers are informal and step up to help without being asked - creating visuals, helping on the door at film screening or talks, or volunteering to man the table at Health Mela events. For instance, when I give talks and workshops to the Asian community we have a sit-down meal after any event and discuss how it went. I take this feedback onboard, adjust my presentation going into their next event. Often their needs progress if their level of dementia is declining. So, from one event to the next with any particular group it is important to be aware of their level of understanding, attention span, sensory deficits and levels of interest. Family members are often the best source for updated information on the condition of their loved one. In order to stay relevant to any particular group it is critical to remain in contact and keep the feedback and consultation regular and sensitive to the group's progressively evolving needs. Dementia for many in the community is a downward slope, such is the poor state of awareness in the national health service that dementia is optional and can be prevented, and to some degree it can be halted or reversed. The two directors meet quarterly for a full day to discuss all matters arising and ongoing. An agenda is distributed ahead of time. A quarterly report is drawn up, agreed on and submitted in writing as a record of what transpired during those meetings.
Director's
