Company information

MTC Northwest Limited is a private company, limited by shares, registered in England and Wales. The company's registered number and registered office address can be found on the Company Information page.

1.1
Basis of preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with FRS 102 “The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland” (“FRS 102”) and the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 as applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime. The disclosure requirements of section 1A of FRS 102 have been applied other than where additional disclosure is required to show a true and fair view.

The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

This company is a qualifying entity for the purposes of FRS 102, being a member of a group where the parent of that group prepares publicly available consolidated financial statements, including this company, which are intended to give a true and fair view of the assets, liabilities, financial position and profit or loss of the group. The company has therefore taken advantage of exemptions from the following disclosure requirements:

The financial statements of the company are consolidated in the financial statements of Steve Gray Limited. These consolidated financial statements are available from its registered office, Gores Road, Knowsley Industrial Park, Kirkby, Liverpool L33 7XS.

1.2
Going concern

Atruet the time of approving the financial statements, the directors have a reasonable expectation that the company has adequate resources to continue in operational existence for the foreseeable future. Thus the directors continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the financial statements.

1.3
Revenue

Turnover is recognised at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable for goods and services provided in the normal course of the business, and is shown net of VAT and other sales related taxes. The fair value of consideration takes into account trade discounts, settlement discounts and volume rebates.

1.4
Tangible fixed assets

Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less depreciation and any impairment

Depreciation is provided at the following annual rates in order to write off the cost less estimated residual value of each asset over it's estimated useful life or, if held under a finance lease, over the lease term, whichever is the shorter.

1.5
Impairment of fixed assets

At each reporting date assets are reviewed to determine whether there is any indication that those assets have suffered an impairment loss. If there is an indication of possible impairment, the recoverable amount of any affected asset is estimated and compared with its carrying amount, If the recoverable amount is lower, the carrying amount of the asset is is reduced to its recoverable amount and an impairment loss is recognised immediately in the profit and loss.

If an impairment loss is subsequently reversed, the carrying amount of the asset is increased to the revised estimate of its recoverable amount, but not to exceed the amount that would have been determined had no impairment loss been recognised for the asset in prior periods. A reversal of an impairment loss is recognised immediately in the profit and loss.

1.6
Stocks

Stocks and work in progress are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items.

Cost is calculated using the first-in, first-out method and includes all purchase, transport and handling costs in bringing stocks to their present location and condition.

At each reporting date, an assessment is made for impairment. Any excess of the carrying amount of stocks over its estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell is recognised as an impairment loss in profit or loss.

Reversals of impairment losses are also recognised in profit or loss.

1.7
Financial instruments

Short term financial assets, including trade and other debtors and cash and bank balances, are measured at the transaction price. Financial assets that have no stated interest rate and are recoverable within one year shall be measured at the undiscounted amount due.

Short term financial liabilities, including trade and other creditors, are measured at the transaction price. Financial liabilities that have no stated interest rate and are payable within one year shall be measured at the undiscounted amount due.

Related party loans have no stated interest rate, are payable on demand and are measured at the undiscounted amount due.

1.8
Taxation

Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent hat it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.

Current tax

Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the statement of financial position date.

Deferred tax

Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the statement of financial position date.

Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.

Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.

Retirement benefits

The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are charged to profit or loss in the period to which they relate.

1.10

Lease commitments

Assets obtained under hire purchase contracts or finance leases are capitalised in the balance sheet. Those held under hire purchase contracts are depreciated over their estimated useful lives. Those held under finance leases are depreciated over their estimated useful lives or the lease term., whichever is the shorter.

The interest element of these obligations is charged to profit or loss over the relevant period. The capital element of the future payments is treated as a liability.

Rentals payable under operating leases are charged to the profit or loss on a straight line basis over the term of the lease.

2
Judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty

In the application of the company’s accounting policies, the directors are required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying amount of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources. The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors that are considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.

The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised where the revision affects only that period, or in the period of the revision and future periods where the revision affects both current and future periods.

Key sources of estimation uncertainty

The estimates and assumptions which have a significant risk of causing a material adjustment to the carrying amount of assets and liabilities are as follows.

Vehicle fleet depreciation

An assessment is made on the residual values of the vehicle fleet by experienced management. If an indication exists that the previous estimates differ, the residual values are amended by an increase or decrease in the estimated depreciation.
