These are the first financial statements prepared in accordance with FRS 102, Section 1A. The company previously prepared its financial statements under FRS105.
The transition to FRS 102 Section 1A has resulted in one material adjustment to the amounts previously reported. Under FRS 102, the company is required to recognise deferred tax on a full provision basis using the timing differences approach. Under FRS105, the company was prohibited from providing for deferred tax.
On transition, a deferred tax liability of £33,608 has been recognised, with a corresponding adjustment to retained earnings. This represents timing differences between the carrying value of assets and liabilities and their tax base, primarily arising from accelerated capital allowances.
Although the restatement has resulted in a reduction to opening retained earnings, dividends declared in prior periods were lawful when paid, having been determined by reference to accounts properly prepared under the then-applicable accounting framework. Their validity is therefore not affected by this transition adjustment.
Reconciliation of equity at the date of transition:
Equity as previously reported under FRS105: £122,954
Recognition of deferred tax liability: £33,608
Equity as restated under FRS 102 Section 1A: £89,346
There was no impact on the profit before tax figure for the comparative period. The profit after tax increased as a result of a credit of £4,605, resprenting a reduction in the deferred tax provision in the year.
