Company activities and impact

Choices Mentoring CIC delivered a drop-in youth club session held in Whitley Reading RG2. The sessions are aimed at young people aged 5-11 years old to enable them to fulfil their full potential, build excellent relationships with peers and increase motivation and self-worth, we also aim to create volunteering opportunities for parents of children taking part, this will benefit the local community. We have vast experience in delivering Youth based sessions, we have delivered quality sessions for young people. In total we delivered once a week for 1 year. we have engaged and encouraged many young people across RG2 one of Readings most deprived communities to attend the open access sessions. The sessions were delivered in a local school Whitley Park we feel this facility is in the centre of RG2. It is big enough for people to attend without restriction. (1, 2-hour sessions after school time). We are taking the sessions to the community to ease with travel and any potential barriers which may stop family’s/children attending. This programme will address a number of issues which include: Lack of young positive role models Lack of volunteers and volunteering opportunities Lack of confidence young people may have in their own abilities Helps to address low self-esteem and poor mental health Reduces risk of disengagement if young people cannot access sessions The youth club will create a community hub for local people a place that matters. It will be open to young people aged 7-13 years. Peers will come together during sessions, we want to increase community cohesion, reduce isolation and encourage increased support networks. This helps to break down barriers, misconceptions, prejudices etc and build positive strong relationships. In Reading there are postcode issues with young people not wanting to leave their areas, so this is a brilliant chance to address this issue.
