During this financial year, Not a Gym CIC successfully transitioned into delivery, launching physical activity sessions in the Bodmin area. This was made possible by: Funding & Support: £13,441 received from the Sport England Movement Fund (via the National Lottery), and a £2,000 grant from the charity Sported to support delivery in areas of deprivation in Cornwall over the next 12 months. Launch & Reach: Physical delivery officially commenced on 8th August 2026, with four weeks of activity successfully delivered by the end of the accounting period. Beneficiaries & Referrals: We worked with individuals living with short- and long-term health conditions, all of whom were referred via medical professionals or health and wellbeing leads. Participants presented with diverse conditions, including diabetes, obesity, anxiety, depression, brain injuries, and scoliosis. Delivery Approach & Impact: Our delivery model deliberately targets small groups. This allows our team to spend essential time getting to know participants personally, building trust, understanding their motivations for being active, and tailoring future activity programmes around their ability to manage their specific health conditions. This lays the foundation for long-term health and wellbeing improvements in the community
Who was consulted & how: In November 2025, we conducted a targeted survey of individuals living with health conditions in areas of deprivation across Cornwall. Key Findings: Health Conditions: Over 40% reported a weight-related condition (including obesity), 38.8% a mental health condition, and 39% a musculoskeletal issue. Additionally, responses covered women’s health issues including the menopause (26.9%) and lung conditions (25.4%). (Note: multiple selections were permitted). Activity Levels & Awareness: While 36% acknowledged that physical activity helps manage their condition, they reported not being active enough, and only 19.4% felt they managed their condition well. Community Preference: More than half (53.7%) expressed a desire to exercise in a group setting within their local community. Actions Taken in Response: The insights gathered directly shaped the design of our physical activity programmes. Specifically, the strong demand for community-based group exercise and the high prevalence of complex health conditions informed our decision to launch small-group, highly personalised sessions led by a trusted delivery team.
