During the reporting period, Barrow on Bikes CIC worked to improve access to cycling across Barrow-in-Furness, particularly for individuals and families who may otherwise struggle to afford a bicycle or bicycle repairs. The CIC collected donated bicycles, refurbished them to a safe and usable standard, and redistrib-uted them within the community at low cost or through community support initiatives. The CIC also provided bicycle repair and maintenance services, helping local people keep their bicycles safe and roadworthy. This has supported access to affordable transport, encouraged active travel, and reduced financial barriers to cycling. In addition, Barrow on Bikes CIC delivered bike confidence activities and guided rides designed to increase cycling participation, improve cycling skills, and build confidence amongst riders of all ages and abilities. These activities have generated community benefit by: Increasing access to affordable transport. Promoting healthier lifestyles through physical activity. Reducing environmental waste through the reuse and recycling of donated bicycles. Encouraging sustainable travel choices. Supporting social inclusion by making cycling more accessible to people on low incomes. Bringing people together through organised rides and cycling activities. The company's activities differ from those of a commercial bicycle business because any surplus generated is reinvested into delivering further community benefit through bicycle recycling, community cycling pro-grammes, workshop development, training, and the provision of affordable bicycles and repairs.
The company's primary stakeholders include: Beneficiaries receiving refurbished bicycles. Local residents using repair services. Volunteers. Partner organisations. Donors of bicycles and equipment. Participants attending confidence rides and cycling activities. Barrow on Bikes CIC engages with stakeholders through day-to-day conversations, feedback from custom-ers and service users, discussions with volunteers, social media engagement, and collaboration with local community organisations. Feedback received from stakeholders has helped to shape the services offered by the CIC, including the de-velopment of bicycle maintenance support, decisions about stock and equipment requirements, and the planning of cycling activities and guided rides. The company will continue to seek feedback to ensure that its activities remain responsive to local commu-nity needs and deliver maximum community benefit.
