AiMH UK's charitable purposes are as set out in its Articles of Association:

AiMH UK's charitable purpose is to advance education and understanding of infant mental health and the emotional development and wellbeing of infants and young children.

AiMH UK achieves this by raising awareness, sharing research evidence and promoting evidence-informed practice among healthcare professionals, practitioners, policymakers and the wider public through conferences, workshops, professional development opportunities, online resources and publications.

AiMH UK is an interdisciplinary, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to improving understanding of the importance of early relationships and their influence on infants' emotional, social and psychological development.

As an affiliate of the World Association for Infant Mental Health (WAIMH), our work is underpinned by a strong evidence base demonstrating the importance of nurturing early relationships for infant development and long-term wellbeing.

Our values emphasise the importance of responsive relationships, ethical practice, professional collaboration and supporting the wellbeing of babies and their families.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
" Membership: Although a decline again in numbers, AiMH UK continued to support a multidisciplinary membership of professionals, early years workers, educators, students and organisations working with babies, young children and families. A revised membership structure was introduced in September 2025, providing more accessible membership options for qualified professionals, early years workers and students, alongside discounted team and organisational membership. Partnership membership arrangements continued with the Infant Mental Health Association of Aotearoa New Zealand (IMHAANZ) and the University of Northampton.

" Website and Online Community: The AiMH UK website and online Members' Area continued to provide access to professional resources, educational materials, sector news and events. The Mighty Networks platform supported professional connections and knowledge-sharing through dedicated spaces for resources, regional communities and the IMH CPD Programme.

" Educational Resources and Members' Library: AiMH UK continued to develop and share evidence-informed resources to support practitioners in their work with babies and families. This included the publication of the Best Practice Factsheet Safeguarding Infants from Relational Trauma, alongside IMH CPD Soundbites, professional learning materials and access to recorded presentations. The Members' Library was further developed to improve access to specialist publications and educational resources, alongside the introduction of exclusive book offers and discounts for members on publications by leading authors and experts in the field of infant mental health. Regular newsletters and communications highlighted relevant research findings, professional learning opportunities and developments across the infant mental health sector.

" Online Learning - Babies in Mind: An important development during 2025 was the relaunch of Babies in Mind: Why the Parents' Mind Matters, an online course developed in collaboration with the University of Oxford and delivered through FutureLearn. The four-week course explores the influence of parents' and caregivers' experiences on infant mental health, brain development and children's emotional wellbeing, providing accessible, evidence-informed learning opportunities for practitioners, students and others interested in early development.

" Infant Mental Health Competency Framework and Professional Development: AiMH UK continued to promote its Infant Mental Health Competency Framework and support practitioners undertaking the IMH CPD Programme. The Framework provides a structured approach to reflecting on and developing infant mental health knowledge, skills and practice, with opportunities for practitioners to work towards recognition through the Infant Mental Health Recognition Register.

" Supporting Early Years Professionals: AiMH UK continued to strengthen its engagement with the early years workforce. During 2025, two nine-week Work Discussion Group programmes were delivered for early years professionals, led by Peter Elfer from the University of Roehampton and Ruth Seglow, Consultant Psychotherapist. The first programme ran from January to March, followed by a second in September 2025. The initiative aimed to support reflective practice and prepare experienced early years professionals to facilitate Work Discussion Groups themselves, extending opportunities for professional development to a wider early years workforce and ultimately benefiting children and families.

" Collaboration with Universities and Educational Institutions: AiMH UK continued its partnership with the University of Northampton and developed links with the Early Childhood Studies Degrees Network (ECDSN), supporting opportunities for students and early years professionals to engage with infant mental health learning and professional development. This work reflected the charity's commitment to strengthening infant mental health knowledge within education and training pathways.

" Infant Mental Health Directory: AiMH UK continued to develop and promote its online Infant Mental Health Directory, providing a platform for training providers and organisations to share educational courses, professional development opportunities and services relevant to infant mental health. The Directory supports practitioners in identifying learning opportunities and connecting with organisations working across the sector.

" Events and Conferences: During 2025, AiMH UK delivered a programme of online conferences, workshops, Lunchtime Skills Box Sessions and professional learning events, attracting a total of 922 attendees. Although attendance was lower than in 2024, the programme continued to provide valuable opportunities for practitioners across the UK to access expert knowledge, share experiences and strengthen professional practice.

Report of the Trustees
for the Year Ended 31 December 2025

The Annual National Conference, Tiny Senses, Big Impact, held in November 2025, attracted 201 attendees and explored the importance of sensory experiences and sensory processing in infant and early childhood development. The conference brought together expert speakers and practitioners from across disciplines, providing opportunities for evidence-informed learning and reflection on infant mental health and early relationships.

" Advocacy and Professional Standards: AiMH UK continued to raise awareness of the importance of infant mental health and early relational health through professional networks, educational activities and collaboration with organisations across the sector. The charity continued to promote its Infant Mental Health Competency Framework, previously referenced in the Government's Family Hubs and Start for Life Programme Guidance, as a resource for strengthening knowledge and professional practice.

" Governance and Organisational Development: The Board of Trustees continued to oversee the charity's strategic direction and financial sustainability during a challenging economic period. Measures introduced to manage expenditure contributed to a significant improvement in financial performance during 2025, although these also placed limitations on operational capacity. AiMH UK continued to deliver its core activities with a small operational team, supported by trustees and its wider professional network.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
The financial year 2025 continued to present significant financial and operational challenges for AiMH UK, against a backdrop of wider economic pressures affecting charities, public services and the professionals and organisations they support. Despite these difficult circumstances, cost-management measures introduced during the year, together with increased income from projects, grants and donations, contributed to a substantial improvement in the charity's financial performance compared with 2024.

Total income increased to £74,319 (2024: £56,920), supported by membership subscriptions, events, project funding, grants and donations. The charity secured £19,800 in project funding for the Elevate Great - Childminders Project, together with £8,000 in grant income. Donations also increased during the year.

Membership subscriptions and events continued to provide important sources of income, although income from some membership categories declined compared with the previous year. Recognising the financial pressures facing individuals and organisations, AiMH UK introduced a monthly Direct Debit payment option for qualified professional membership in September 2025. This provided greater flexibility by allowing members to spread the cost of their annual subscription, helping to make membership more accessible during a particularly challenging economic period.

In response to continuing financial pressures, the Trustees implemented further measures to reduce expenditure. These included a reduction in the working hours and salary of the Chief Operations Officer and reduced hours for administrative support. Other areas of expenditure were also reviewed to identify savings and improve operational efficiency.

These measures contributed to a reduction in administrative costs from £90,973 in 2024 to £79,024 in 2025. The charity recorded an operating deficit of £5,700 for the year, compared with a deficit of £37,608 in 2024.

Although this represents a considerable improvement, the charity continued to operate with limited financial resources. The reductions in staffing capacity placed additional demands on the small operational team and required careful prioritisation of activities.

Despite these challenges, AiMH UK continued to deliver its core charitable activities, including educational events, professional development opportunities, resources and membership services.

The Trustees recognise that achieving long-term financial sustainability remains a priority and that continued expenditure controls, income generation and the development of more reliable funding streams will be essential.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Going concern
The Trustees acknowledge that AiMH UK continued to experience financial pressures during 2025, resulting in an operating deficit of £5,700 for the year.

The significant reduction in the deficit compared with 2024 reflects the expenditure controls and operational adjustments introduced by the charity, including reductions in staffing costs and administrative expenditure.

However, the charity continues to operate with limited financial resources and remains dependent on generating sufficient income through membership subscriptions, events, projects, grants and donations to meet its ongoing commitments.

The Trustees will continue to monitor the charity's financial position closely, review expenditure and prioritise activities in line with available resources. Particular attention will be given to cash flow, the sustainability of core operations and the development of reliable income streams.

The Trustees' assessment of the charity's ability to continue as a going concern will take account of its current financial position, available funding and cash-flow forecasts for the period ahead.

FUTURE PLANS
The Trustees remain committed to promoting awareness, education and evidence-informed practice in infant mental health, supporting professionals working with babies, young children and their families.

Building on the financial and operational changes introduced during 2025, the charity will continue to focus on delivering its core charitable objectives within the resources available. Financial sustainability will remain a central consideration in determining future priorities and activities.

A key priority for 2026 will be to strengthen and develop membership, particularly through partnerships with teams, services and organisations, and by increasing engagement with early years professionals. Against a backdrop of continuing economic pressures, the charity will review its membership structure, payment options and benefits to ensure that membership remains accessible, affordable and relevant to practitioners, while balancing these objectives with the need to generate sustainable income.

As part of this commitment, Lunchtime Skills Box Sessions will once again be offered free of charge to AiMH UK members during 2026, providing accessible opportunities for professional learning and development.
AiMH UK will continue to develop its educational resources and professional development opportunities, including the Infant Mental Health Competency Framework and associated guidance. The charity will also review the future delivery of its IMH CPD Programme and Infant Mental Health Recognition Register to ensure that these remain relevant, accessible and financially sustainable.

Further work will focus on strengthening relationships with universities, colleges and training providers, supporting the integration of infant mental health knowledge within professional education and early years training.

The charity will also continue to explore opportunities for external funding, sponsorship, charitable donations and collaborative projects. However, the Trustees recognise that securing unrestricted funding remains challenging and that the organisation must avoid taking on commitments beyond its available financial and operational capacity.

With 2026 marking AiMH UK's 30th anniversary, the charity will seek to build on its established reputation and professional networks, raising awareness of infant mental health and the importance of supporting early relationships.

The Trustees remain committed to ensuring that AiMH UK continues to make a meaningful contribution to the infant mental health workforce while taking a realistic and responsible approach to its financial sustainability.
