COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

KYSO PROJECT CIC

Company Number: 12292211 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 October 2025

Company activities and impact

Activities for KYSO Project CIC over the year included: Partnering with the Black Trailblazers, ZArts, Parklife, Manchester Caribbean Carnival to plan, host and perform at major culturally important events. Our annual outdoors BBQ and Sports Day are highlights of the year and bring our members and their families out for a fun filled day. These events are how we acheive community cohesion on a consistent basis. We also host a KYSO Open Day, attracting new talented people to our project and also outreach, spreading the word to new community members about what we offer at our base at Moss Side Millenium Powerhouse. We funded laptops as part of our homework support and employment skills sessions each term. This included sessions on budgeting, saving money and future planning for young people and students. Weekly food provided to help eradicate food poverty. We provided KYSO uniforms for major external events and trips, keeping our branding clear and memorable. Rewarding our young memebers hard work, effort and motivation to complete their youth led planning and implementation of events and projects. Fully equipped youth base e.g. computers, laptops, sports and games equipment and more to keep members engaged at sessions. Yearly residentials, sporting events and concerts for young members to experience enrichment outside of their normal environments. This helps widen their worldview, teaches manners and etiquette and as a result raises aspirations. We are proud to offer life changing opportunities for young people. The KYSO Winter Celebration took place on 17th of January 2025 at the Powerhouse. The event was a resounding success, bringing together a vibrant mix of current members, alumni, and supporters. This annual event gives us a chance to celebrate achievements of our members, ambassadors, volunteers over the year. We sent several members to enrol and graduate at Snowcamp, an excellent chance to learn and train others to participate in Winter sports in Trafford Park. We helped to host, model and perform at a fashion show created by our members at our base, and another fashion show created by our Ambassador DJ SSKES at Avan Lounge in Manchester. We performed at countless events from children's parties, community functions, nightlife events and more! We know how to build cultural capital in the city. We did some great work on careers throughout February and March 2025. This included partnerships with major organisations and local businesses to host jobs fairs and careers events. We host sessions and inspirational talks every Friday at youth club from members of local orgs and notable adults from the local community. The Powerhouse 25th Anniversary was on 28th March 2025. We showcased our talents and appreciation for the Powerhouse by planning, hosting and performing for staff, peers and community visitors. Since tragically losing our member and nephew Prince's young life to knife crime in April 2024, we have continued and ramped up on work in the community. We held various community events to bring the community closer, grieve and inform. Some of these events included a balloon release, Prince's birthday celebrations, and a wake keeping. We organised a youth trip last minute in April 2024, to bring Prince’s friends, family and members on a day trip to quad biking, archery and team building exercises. Youth Work increased in the local area. The Community Guardians group got together to help where there are gaps and supported all major local events. We continued our immediate knife crime work at youth club: 1. Gathered all young people at our Powerhouse session on Fridays and spoke to them about knife crime, held a minute silence and intense community conversations. 2. 42nd Street support, coming in to speak to young people about grief, counselling and one to one work with young people affected. 3. Karlett Manning – one to one work with young people, check ins and wider support. 4. Youth Surveys – checking in on young people and also getting ideas. 5. Youth Voice – consultation with young people about their views on knife crime. 6. Careers Advisors – Work around aspirations, motivation and jobs. 7. GMP Bikes – Maintenance workshops, supporting young people, going on bike rides throught the year. Campaigning and activism in the local community and across Manchester: Defibrillators have been placed in the community, especially in key hot spot areas where crime is likely to occur, also bleed kits installed. Holiday programmes for youths aged between 13–19. Continued and specialised outreach work; more funding raised to support outreach in the community. Work with local schools; we visited several to complete presentations on knife crime, the law and sharing Prince’s story. Requesting for more knife bins in the community so people can drop knives anonymously. Bleed kits placed in Powerhouse and select locations around our youth base. Speaking to people like Kelly Brown, Alison Cope, who have lost young people to knife crime, their own children. Community call outs for more elders to support the youths. Encouarging more parents getting involved, speaking to their young people, this is done through our KYSO Parents/Guardians WhatsApp channel. Aris Funding & GMP bike donations: funding to support our local initiatives. Feedback from the GMP was positive, as a result of our efforts alongside the wider community we were told there had been a reduction in serious knife crime events in and around Moss Side in 2024 and 2025. In October 2024, our amazing youth group attended the BLAC Awards in Birmingham. We were nominated for two awards; young leader of the year 2024 and services to youth engagement. Although our young leader did not win the young leader of the year award, she is still a winner! We came away with the BLAC Award 2024 for Services to Youth Engagement. We are so proud of the great work we do at the Powerhouse in Moss Side, listening to our young people. Their voice and feedback is important in order to offer them the best suited opportunities and to better their life chances. We continued our great work with the Greater Manchester Youth Combined Authority, helping to form and shape the policy for young people within the GMCA. The Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham visited our youth session at the Powerhouse in Moss Side, he shared his personal journey and life story with the young people. During his visit, he engaged in meaningful conversations, asking young people about their hopes, dreams, and aspirations for the future. His words of encouragement and lived experiences deeply inspired the young people, leaving them motivated and empowered to pursue their ambitions. Rounding off the year, Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN) hosted their Gala in Oct 2025. They shortlisted KYSO for Young People's Organisation of the Year and our CEO won Special Recognition Award for Youth Leadership!

Consultation with stakeholders

KYSO's stakeholders consist of the management (directors), senior leadership team (senior members), young members and ambassadors (former members and allies/supporters). Communication between stakeholders is daily through three different Whats App groups for the Senior leadership team and young members. Weekly team meetings are held Monday evenings, for sharing new, planning updates and collaboration and idea creation. The directors meet every two weeks to discuss the running, fundraising and future planning for the CIC on a management level. We often call emergency meetings with young members to get immediate decisions on time sensitive opportunities, or to share exciting news. We often take surveys and questionnaires following activities and projects to gauge interest, tailor future offerings, understand our youth voices and meeting our "You said it, we did it" promises. Throughout the year we produce reports: internal feedback reports, reports to funders and a full overview report of the year.
