During the financial year ended 31 January 2026, Green Heart Community Nursery CIC continued to work towards its aim of creating future employment and volunteering opportunities for people who may face barriers to traditional employment, including people affected by disability, mental health difficulties, neurodiversity or other challenges. The CIC remains in the development stage and has not yet secured a permanent nursery site. Limited director capacity during the year also meant that progress was necessarily modest. However, the CIC continued to maintain its horticultural activity, develop awareness of its purpose, and lay foundations for future social and environmental benefit. Environmentally Responsible Plant Production and Sales The CIC continued to propagate plants using peat-free compost and without pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilisers. Plants were supplied for sale through Green Heart Horticultural Services Limited. These sales made environmentally responsible, traceable plants available to local customers and supported gardening practices that are more beneficial to biodiversity. Income generated from plant sales contributes towards the CIC’s resources and its longer-term objective of establishing a nursery capable of providing supported volunteering and paid employment opportunities. Community Education and Engagement During the year, the CIC delivered a talk to Kings Moat Gardening Club in Chester on the foundations of plant propagation. The session shared practical knowledge of propagation techniques and promoted sustainable approaches to producing plants. This engagement helped raise awareness of the CIC, encouraged local interest in environmentally responsible growing, and supported gardeners to develop their confidence and knowledge. Progress Towards Future Social Impact No paid employment opportunities or formal volunteer placements were provided during the period, as the CIC has not yet secured a suitable nursery site and remains at an early stage of development. Nevertheless, the continuation of plant propagation, plant sales and community engagement has enabled the CIC to remain active and visible while resources and capacity are developed. Securing a suitable permanent site remains central to the CIC’s future plans. Such a site would provide the stable base required to expand plant production, offer training and volunteering opportunities, and ultimately create supported paid employment for people who may otherwise be overlooked by employers. Through the activities undertaken during the year, Green Heart Community Nursery CIC has continued to pursue its community-benefit purpose and preserve the foundations for increased social and environmental impact in future years.
