COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

ANGLING AND MENTAL HEALTH INITIATIVE CIC

Company Number: 15471027 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 28 February 2026

Company activities and impact

During the year ending 28th February 2026, Angling and Mental Health Initiative CIC (AMHI) continued to use angling to improve mental health and wellbeing, reduce isolation and build confidence. We also widened our programme so that people can progress from a first taster session to becoming confident, independent anglers. REACH AMHI delivered 529 places across its sessions to 329 individual participants, 60% of them under 18 and almost half aged 12 or under. Over a third of online bookings (94 of 280) were free of charge, so cost was not a barrier for those who needed support most. Since our first events in 2022, AMHI has recorded 1,644 attendances. PROGRAMMES Let's Go Fishing by the Sea (new): AMHI's first ever sea-fishing events. Three pilot events at Shoreham Port (14th June, 12th July and 30th August 2025) provided 93 places. At the first event every participant caught a fish, including gobies, ballan wrasse, bass and eel. Shoreham Port Authority provided the venue, port access and facilities, and Lagoon Bait and Tackle supplied the bait. Let's Go Fishing (freshwater): taster events at Kiln Pond (31st May and 23rd August 2025), with the support of Ardingly College, and at Andy's Fishery (20th September 2025). A further planned event was cancelled because of an amber storm warning, to keep participants safe. Get Fishing Gathering (new) on 12th October 2025 AMHI hosted and managed the Angling Trust's Get Fishing Gathering at Passies Ponds Fishery, Lancing, with 85 places across two sessions. We brought together partner organisations including Angling Mentors, Different Angle, Hadlow College and the Angling Trust's Building Bridges Project. Participants received free coaching and could try fly casting, fly tying and land-based angling games. The Environment Agency supported the event with funding and free rod licence waivers, and Bodle Angling supplied the bait. Summer Camp (new) our first ever summer camp ran on 16 days between July and September 2025 at Latchetts Lakes, Furners Green, through our venue partnership, with two 3.5-hour sessions each day and 99 places taken. It gave young people a safe, structured and screen-free way to spend the school holidays outdoors, learning to fish, building confidence and making friends. Hooked on Learning. 15 training days at More House Farm Fishery delivered 117 places on the Angling Trust's CAST Awards, giving participants a structured route from beginner to skilled, independent angler. Young Anglers Club (new): our first 24-hour carp social (31st August 2025) became the starting point for the Young Anglers Club, established at the end of October 2025 through the Clubmate membership platform and Angling Trust club membership. By the end of February 2026 the club had over 20 members. Each new member receives a welcome pack (branded clothing, a rig box and log books), and members took part in after-school club sessions, 7- and 10-hour socials and a reservoir campaign, booking 38 places. On 28th February 2026 members travelled with us to The Big One fishing show at Farnborough. The club gives young people somewhere to belong, a routine outdoors and a route to progress through the CAST Awards. COMMUNITY EVENTS AND SHOWS We took AMHI's story directly to local people with a stall at the Spring into Summer Festival, Haywards Heath (8th June 2025) demonstrations and a stall at the Cowpie Country Show (22nd June 2025), new for AMHI this year; and angling demonstrations in the main ring plus a stall with games alongside our sponsor Bodle Angling at the South of England Autumn Horse Trials, Ardingly Showground (27th 28th September 2025). VOLUNTEERS AND LEADERSHIP On 20th May 2025 we strengthened our leadership by appointing Lorna King as a Director. Her impact was immediate: she played a key role in delivering our first Summer Camp and shared the drive behind founding the Young Anglers Club. We DBS-checked four new volunteers and invested in further training, and a volunteer coach gained their Angling Trust Level 2 coaching licence, personally funded by our Founding Director, increasing the number of qualified coaches able to lead sessions. On 7th November 2025 we held our Volunteer Awards at the Hassocks Hotel, which generously provided the venue free of charge. The evening celebrated four years of AMHI, including our second year as a CIC, and the milestones our volunteers have made possible. The High Sheriff of West Sussex, Dr Tim Fooks, attended and spoke on stage about the impact AMHI's work has had on people across the local area. PARTNERSHIPS, FUNDING AND RECOGNITION A grant of 2,389 from the Angling Trust's Get Fishing Fund supported our planned 2025 events programme, funding shared coaching kit (coarse and sea rods, chairs, nets and fish- care kits) so that participants do not need their own equipment. Our sponsor Bodle Angling continued to support us throughout, and its summer open day (27th July 2025) raised £527 for AMHI. At that open day we welcomed Spencer Chunn of Korda Developments as an AMHI Ambassador; Spencer has secured support from the Korda and Guru brands, including tackle at reduced cost and sponsored tackle and awards for our Volunteer Awards. On 9th March 2025, Founding Director Ben Harragan was named Sportsperson of the Year by the Mayor of Haywards Heath. On 29th May 2025 he met the High Sheriff of West Sussex to share AMHI's story, went on to attend several of the High Sheriff's events on mental health, and spoke at one about his own experience, raising awareness of how angling can support wellbeing.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company's stakeholders are participants and their families; volunteers and coaches; schools, social prescribers and community groups who refer people to us; and our partners, including the Angling Trust, the Environment Agency, our sponsor Bodle Angling, our Ambassador Spencer Chunn of Korda Developments, Shoreham Port Authority, Lagoon Bait and Tackle, the Hassocks Hotel, and the fisheries that host our sessions. We consult participants and families through conversations on the bank at every session, and, since October 2025, through the Young Anglers Club, which gives members and parents a regular say in club activities. We work with partners and volunteers when planning each season's events, and our Volunteer Awards in November 2025 brought the whole team together to reflect on the year. What we heard from participants and families shaped the year's programme. People wanted ways to keep fishing after taster events, and families wanted regular sessions for their children. In response, we expanded Hooked on Learning, launched our first Summer Camp, piloted Let's Go Fishing! by the Sea, and founded the Young Anglers Club. Participation shows how much people valued these changes. 329 individuals filled 529 places, many returning for further sessions. Of the 39 people at our August Kiln Pond event, 16 also booked other AMHI sessions during the year, and over 20 families joined the Young Anglers Club within its first four months. We are introducing a refreshed feedback survey for the 2026 season, so that future reports reflect each year's participants directly.

Directors' remuneration

Yes – expenses reimbursed only. To note: During the year, Ben Harragan (Director) was engaged by the company as a qualified Level 2 angling coach to deliver the Summer Camp and Hooked on Learning coaching sessions. He was paid £3,110 in coaching fees for 25 coaching days at £120–£150 per day, below the typical day rate for a licensed Level 2 coach (valued at £210 per day in the company's grant applications). This represented a saving of £2,140 to the company. He was also reimbursed £220 for venue day tickets he purchased on the company's behalf for Hooked on Learning sessions, which is not remuneration. Summer Camp venue costs were paid directly by the company under its partnership with the venue. The engagement was approved by the board and recorded in the minutes. From his fees, Ben Harragan personally funded a volunteer coach's Angling Trust Level 2 coaching licence (£290) on behalf of the company. No director received any payment for their services as a director. Reimbursement was made for mileage, bait, and basic event-day supplies incurred during the planning and delivery of CIC events. No director has received a salary or personal gain.
