Safe and Healthy Youth (SHY) CIC is a community interest company based in Kingston upon Hull. We support children, young people aged 11 to 25, and families, particularly those experiencing poverty, social isolation, bullying, discrimination, emotional difficulties and limited access to opportunities. During our first financial year, ending 30th September 2026, we worked to create safe, welcom-ing and inclusive spaces where young people and families could feel valued, listened to, support-ed and connected to their communities. Our activities included: 1.Youth Wellbeing and Resilience: We provided supportive activities and discussions to help young people develop confidence, emotional awareness, positive relationships and a sense of belonging. 2.Community Cooking and Family Support: We delivered cooking and healthy living activ-ities, family dinner club sessions and practical support for families experiencing financial and social difficulties. 3.Creative and Recreational Activities: We organised arts, crafts, sports and recreational activities to encourage creativity, teamwork, friendship and positive engagement. 4.Holiday Activities: We delivered activities through the Hull Healthy Holiday Pro-gramme, providing children with opportunities to participate in enjoyable and structured activities during school holidays. 5.Mentoring and Personal Development: We supported young people with confidence building, communication, decision-making, life skills and personal development. 6.Community Engagement: We worked with parents, carers, local organisations and com-munity partners to understand community needs and improve access to support. Our activities particularly benefited families in disadvantaged communities across Hull, includ-ing the HU3, HU4 and HU5 areas. Through our work, young people had opportunities to build friendships, learn practical skills, participate in positive activities and access trusted adults who listened to their concerns. Parents and carers also benefited from opportunities to connect with others, share experiences and access community support. During the reporting year, SHY CIC secured funding and developed partnerships to strengthen its community activities and establish a foundation for continued support. Our overall aim has been to reduce social isolation, improve emotional wellbeing, strengthen family relationships and ensure that young people who may otherwise feel excluded have oppor-tunities to participate and thrive.
SHY CIC’s main stakeholders include children and young people, parents and carers, volunteers, community organisations, local service providers, funders and residents in the communities we serve. During the financial year ending 30th September 2026, we consulted our stakeholders through community surveys, informal discussions, feedback during activities and direct conversations with young people and families. In November 2025, we conducted a community needs survey to better understand the challenges facing young people and families in Hull. The feedback highlighted the need for safe youth spaces, mental health and emotional wellbeing support, opportunities for personal development, and action to address bullying, discrimination and social isolation. Parents and young people also expressed the importance of having welcoming spaces where they could share their concerns, feel listened to and receive support without judgement. In response to this feedback, SHY CIC developed and delivered activities focused on confidence building, practical life skills, creative engagement, healthy living, emotional wellbeing and family support. We also engaged with local community organisations and partners to improve access to activities and strengthen community connections. Stakeholder feedback continues to guide our programme planning and service development, ensuring that the voices and experiences of young people and families remain central to our work.
During the financial year ending 30th September 2026, one director, Vivian Nneka Chukwue-meka, received a total gross salary of £6,666.66 for her employment as Programme and Opera-tions Manager of Safe and Healthy Youth (SHY) CIC. This remuneration was paid for managing the organisation’s daily operations, coordinating community programmes, supervising staff, supporting safeguarding arrangements and oversee-ing project delivery. The remaining three directors received no remuneration during the reporting period.
