SEND COFFEE CIC

Directors' report period ended 31 January 2026

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 January 2026

Principal activities of the company

We are SEND Coffee CIC, standing for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We exist as a nonprofit to make the UK Coffee industry a more accessible place. We achieve this through several projects. Our first and longest standing project is the delivery of a therapy model of 1:1 support in our shops to young adults, aged 18-25 with SEN. This is a total of 1200-1500 hours of 1:1 support delivered by a trained specialist 'mentor', with suitable experience or qualifications. By doing this we develop independent adult life skills with each young person, teaching them how to cook, how to travel, how to manage finances, how to balance a social life, and all the self care activities necessary for a high quality independent adult life. To date this project has supported 83 young people with disabilities to achieve life skills. A further project is to support other like minded charities and nonprofits through securing and providing high quality equipment. This includes specialist or modified equipment, commercial coffee machines, and other resources that enable organisations supporting disabled people to do things to a high quality level. In this financial year we provided £135'000 of equipment to other nonprofits. Finally, we conduct research and awareness work to challenge perceptions of disabilities in the UK, particularly in the coffee industry. We performed surveys of over 500 coffee shops with more than 5 staff around identification as disabled, and awareness of the employers of these needs. We sponsored support services at numerous major trade shows for the coffee industry, including British Sign Language interpreters, accessibility response teams, and pre event forums. Given the company’s purpose of supporting young adults with special educational needs and disabilities into independent adult life and employment in the coffee industry, the directors also ensure that the working environment and practices accommodate the needs of disabled employees and trainees wherever reasonably practicable. It is the policy of the company that the training, career development and promotion of disabled persons should, as far as possible, be identical to that of other employees. The company conducts optional surveys of existing employees to understand the number of persons with disabilities or lived experience of disabilities work within it. These activities were funded through the wholesale of coffee beans to other organisations and individuals. No other material fundraising activities were conducted during this period. All of our activities are now overseen and controlled by the charitably foundation, The Foundation for Persons with Disabilities in Coffee, registered charity number 1214167.
