Directors' report period ended 31 January 2026

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 January 2026

Principal activities of the company

In 2025, the Bird Box Gallery CIC continued to provide an accessible and inclusive platform for community arts engagement, offering year-round public exhibitions displayed in its hedge-based gallery and online. Open to all ages and abilities, the project enabled artists, residents and visitors to encounter artwork in everyday public spaces, encouraging creativity, conversation and participation within the neighbourhood. A key achievement was the continued collaboration with Rowan Humberstone Ltd during the 2025 Open Studios programme. Rowan students and staff artists exhibited work through the Birdbox Gallery network, contributing to the creation, curation and presentation of exhibitions while developing confidence, skills and public engagement. The programme also included a memorial exhibition celebrating the work of origami artist Michael Dilkes, attracting new audiences and fostering reflection on artistic legacy and community connections. Together, these activities strengthened relationships between local residents, artists and community organisations, increased opportunities for cultural participation, and established a strong foundation for the development of the 2026 Bird Box Gallery CIC Biennale.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s key stakeholders include local residents, visitors, participating artists, hosts, and community partners. Feedback gathered through surveys, informal discussions, and local residents association meetings have been consistently positive, with strong support for continuing the biennale art trail and developing it into a sustainable event. This feedback has informed planning for both the collaboration with Rowan Open Studios 2025 and the forthcoming 2026 Biennale. The partnership provides a valuable framework for expanding participation and strengthening connections between educational and community led cultural activity. The organisation’s CEO highlighted the project's positive impact on students , noting the opportunity for participants to be involved throughout the process, from planning to public presentation. Building on these outcomes, future activity will focus on creating further opportunities for artist development, increasing community engagement, and establishing the 2026 Biennale as a recognised cultural event that builds on the success of the 2025 Rowan Open Studios.
