Community activities During the year to 28 February 2026, the company ran the Sober Social Climbing Group at City Bloc, a bouldering wall in Leeds. Forty-eight weekly sessions took place, with between two and seven people attending each session, and bursaries covered the cost of attending for every participant. The company also funded training for three volunteers with lived experience of recovery to lead climbing sessions. Separately, it funded training for one volunteer to lead a women's climbing social open to women of all ages. Community benefit Sober Social Climbing Group - gives people in recovery a sober, supportive setting in which to climb together, build confidence and form connections, with no cost barrier to taking part. Evidence of impact is the consistent weekly attendance across 48 sessions. Volunteer training - gives people in recovery recognised climbing qualifications, along with the confidence and skills to pursue coaching as a career or to continue supporting the group as session leaders. Evidence of impact is the progression of three volunteers from participants to trained session leaders. Women's climbing social - a separate strand of the company's work, not linked to recovery. It encourages women of all ages to take part in sport and uses climbing to build confidence, wellbeing and connection in a supportive, women-led group within a public climbing wall. The trained volunteer now leads this group independently.
The company's stakeholders are the participants in the Sober Social Climbing Group; the volunteers who help run it, including the volunteer trained to lead the women's social; Forward Leeds and Humankind as funders; and City Climbing Company Ltd (City Bloc), which hosts the sessions. No formal consultation was carried out during the year. The company is small and its activities run week to week, so feedback is gathered informally from participants and volunteers at sessions and through the group's own channels, and the directors respond directly. The funder received a report on how the grant was spent in line with the funding terms, and session times and the use of space were agreed with City Bloc as needed. The directors consider this approach appropriate to the size of the company and the nature of the group, where trust and continuity matter more than structured review.
