2.3. Tangible Fixed Assets and Depreciation
Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and any accumulated impairment losses. Depreciation is provided at rates calculated to write off the cost of the fixed assets, less their estimated residual value, over their expected useful lives on the following bases:
Leasehold 2%/10% per annum on a straight line basis

2.4. Leasing and Hire Purchase Contracts
Assets obtained under finance leases are capitalised as tangible fixed assets. Assets acquired under finance leases are depreciated over the shorter of the lease term and their useful lives. Assets acquired under hire purchase contracts are depreciated over their useful lives. Finance leases are those where substantially all of the benefits and risks of ownership are assumed by the company. Obligations under such agreements are included in the creditors net of the finance charge allocated to future periods. The finance element of the rental payment is charged to the profit and loss account so as to produce a constant periodic rate of charge on the net obligation outstanding in each period.
Rentals applicable to operating leases where substantially all of the benefits and risks of ownership remain with the lessor are charged to the profit and loss account as incurred.
2.5. Stocks and Work in Progress
Stocks are stated at the lower of cost and estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell.
Cost is calculated on a first in first out basis.
At each reporting date, an assessment is made for impairment. Any excess of the carrying amount of stocks  over its estimated selling price is recognised as an impairment loss in profit or loss. Reversals of impairment losses are also recognised in profit or loss.

The tax expense represents the sum of the tax currently payable on non-mutual trading income and interest received only. The company's mutual trading income is exempt from tax.
Current tax
The current year tax is payable on non-mutual income and interest received.
Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the reporting date. For the Club, these include differences between accounting depreciation and capital allowances attributable to taxable non-member trading activities. No deferred tax is recognised in respect of exempt mutual trading activities.
Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws enacted or substantively enacted at the reporting date that are expected to apply when the timing differences reverse. Deferred tax balances are not discounted.
Deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
2.7. Pensions
Payments to defined contribution retirement benefit schemes are charged as an expense as they fall due.
2.8. Government Grant
Government grants are recognised in the profit and loss account in an appropriate manner that matches them with the expenditure towards which they are intended to contribute.
Grants which relate to assets are recognised in income on a systematic basis over the useful life of the asset concerned.
2.9. Leases
Rentals payable under operating leases, including any lease incentives received, are charged to profit or loss on a straight line basis over the term of the relevant lease except where another more systematic basis is more representative of the time pattern in which economic benefits from the leased asset are consumed.
