| 2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES |
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The financial statements are presented in Pounds Sterling (£), which is the Company's functional and presentation currency.
Critical accounting judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty
In the application of the Company's accounting policies, the directors are required to make judgements, estimates and assumptions about the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities that are not readily apparent from other sources.
The estimates and associated assumptions are based on historical experience and other factors considered to be relevant. Actual results may differ from these estimates.
The estimates and underlying assumptions are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Revisions to accounting estimates are recognised in the period in which the estimate is revised if the revision affects only that period, or in the period of revision and future periods if the revision affects both current and future periods.
The following are the critical judgements and key sources of estimation uncertainty that have a significant risk of causing a material adjustment to the carrying amounts of assets and liabilities within the next financial year:
Impairment of trade debtors - The Company makes an estimate of the recoverable value of trade and other debtors. When assessing impairment, management considers factors including the ageing profile of debtors and historical experience.
Useful economic lives of tangible fixed assets - The annual depreciation charge depends on the estimated useful lives of assets. The directors review these estimates regularly based on the current condition of the assets and expected future use.
Turnover
Turnover, which is stated net of value added tax, represents amounts receivable for the sale of vacuum engineering components and equipment together with income from the hire of equipment, recognised as performance obligations are satisfied.
Intangible assets
Intangible assets are initially measured at cost. After initial recognition, intangible assets are measured at cost less any accumulated amortisation and any accumulated impairment losses.
Tangible fixed assets
| Plant and machinery | - |
| Fixtures and fittings | - |
| Computer equipment | - |
Stocks
Stocks are valued at the lower of cost and net realisable value, after making due allowance for obsolete and slow moving items.

| 2. | ACCOUNTING POLICIES - continued |
Taxation
Taxation for the year comprises current and deferred tax. Tax is recognised in the Income Statement, except to the extent that it relates to items recognised in other comprehensive income or directly in equity.
Current or deferred taxation assets and liabilities are not discounted.
Current tax is recognised at the amount of tax payable using the tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the balance sheet date.
Deferred tax
Deferred tax is recognised in respect of all timing differences that have originated but not reversed at the balance sheet date.
Timing differences arise from the inclusion of income and expenses in tax assessments in periods different from those in which they are recognised in financial statements. Deferred tax is measured using tax rates and laws that have been enacted or substantively enacted by the year end and that are expected to apply to the reversal of the timing difference.
Unrelieved tax losses and other deferred tax assets are recognised only to the extent that it is probable that they will be recovered against the reversal of deferred tax liabilities or other future taxable profits.
Hire purchase and leasing commitments
Rentals paid under operating leases are charged to profit or loss on a straight line basis over the period of the lease.
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits
The company operates a defined contribution pension scheme. Contributions payable to the company's pension scheme are charged to profit or loss in the period to which they relate.
Going concern
The financial statements have been prepared on a going concern basis.
The company has incurred losses during the current and prior years and had net liabilities at the balance sheet date. The company's continued operation is dependent upon the ongoing financial support of its directors.
The directors have reviewed the company's cash flow forecasts and financial commitments for a period of at least twelve months from the date of approval of these financial statements. The directors have confirmed their intention to continue providing financial support as necessary to enable the company to meet its liabilities as they fall due.
Whilst these conditions indicate the existence of a material uncertainty that may cast significant doubt on the company's ability to continue as a going concern, the directors have a reasonable expectation that adequate financial resources will be available. Accordingly, the financial statements have been prepared on the going concern basis.
Cash & cash equivalents definition
Cash comprises cash in hand and demand deposits. Cash equivalents are short-term, highly liquid investments that are readily convertible to known amounts of cash and are subject to an insignificant risk of changes in value.
Cash and cash equivalents consist solely of balances held in the Company's bank current account. The Company does not hold any short-term investments. The company operates an overdraft facility.
