COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

THE SMART ACTION PROJECT CIC

Year Ending: 31 October 2025

Company activities and impact

During the financial year, The SMART Action Project CIC continued to deliver its objectives of improving access to affordable sport, recreation and wellbeing opportunities for children, young people and families in South Molton and the surrounding rural communities. Through a combination of funded holiday activities, inclusive swimming sessions, family events and youth provision, the company worked to reduce barriers to participation, promote physical and mental wellbeing, and create opportunities for families who may otherwise struggle to access these activities. A significant achievement during the year was the delivery of the Summer 2026 Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, funded by Devon County Council. The company was contracted to deliver 530 funded child places and ultimately delivered **553 child places, alongside 426 accompanying parent and carer places**. The programme offered a varied range of activities, including family fun swims, dedicated SEND swimming sessions, Studio Art sessions for primary-aged children and Move and Make sessions for secondary-aged children, combining swimming with creative painting workshops. These activities supported physical activity, creativity, confidence, social interaction and positive experiences during the school holidays. The company also expanded opportunities for families to enjoy shared experiences outside their immediate community. In partnership with the National Trust, SAP CIC organised family days out to Arlington Court and Woolacombe beach, providing transport from South Molton and helping families overcome transport and financial barriers to accessing local attractions and outdoor activities. The summer programme culminated in a community celebration at Quince Honey Farm, bringing families together to celebrate their participation and experiences. Improving access to swimming and water safety remains central to the company's work. Through accessible and subsidised swimming opportunities, the company aims to ensure that children's ability to learn essential lifesaving skills is not determined by their family's financial circumstances. This work is particularly important in supporting families who face financial barriers to regular swimming lessons and recreational activities. The company also continued to develop opportunities for young people to participate in positive social and recreational activities. BASE by SAP, a free Friday evening youth provision based at the YMCA in South Molton, was established to provide young people, primarily aged 11–18, with a safe, welcoming and informal space to meet friends, socialise and take part in activities of their choosing. Developed with support from South Molton Town Council and local partners, including Green Paths Environmental Education CIC, SMART Swim Centre and Skate Molton CIC, BASE promotes young people's choice, inclusion, social connection and sense of belonging without requiring them to participate in a prescribed programme of activities. Alongside its structured programmes, the company continued to strengthen community partnerships and explore new opportunities to respond to local needs. Its activities have helped bring families together, improve access to recreational opportunities, support inclusion for children with additional needs, and create positive spaces for young people within the local community. Overall, the company's activities during the financial year have contributed to improving access to sport, recreation and wellbeing opportunities in South Molton, particularly for children, young people and families who experience financial, geographical or other barriers to participation. Through partnership working, external funding and community-led initiatives, The SMART Action Project CIC has continued to work towards a more inclusive community in which local families can access opportunities to be active, learn new skills, develop relationships and improve their wellbeing.
