Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 31 March 2025

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added tax. Revenue from services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion at the reporting date.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated depreciation and impairment losses. Depreciation is provided on plant and machinery and motor vehicles at 20% reducing balance, and fixtures and fittings and computer equipment at 15% reducing balance.

    Intangible fixed assets amortisation policy

Intangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulated amortisation and any accumulated impairment losses

    Other accounting policies

Debtors Short-term debtors are measured at transaction price, less impairment losses for bad and doubtful debts. Loans and other financial assets are initially recognised at transaction price, including transaction costs, and subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method, less impairment losses. Creditors Short-term creditors are measured at transaction price, usually the invoice price. Loans and other financial liabilities are initially recognised at transaction price net of transaction costs and subsequently measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method. Taxation Current tax is recognised on taxable profits for the current and previous periods. Deferred tax is recognised on timing differences between the recognition of income and expenses in the financial statements and their inclusion in tax assessments. Deferred tax assets are recognised only where recovery against future taxable profits or reversing deferred tax liabilities is probable. Tax is measured using rates and laws enacted or substantively enacted at the reporting date. Current and deferred tax balances are not discounted. Investments Investments in subsidiaries, associates and joint ventures are measured at cost less impairment losses. Listed investments are measured at fair value. Unlisted investments are measured at fair value where this can be measured reliably; otherwise they are measured at cost less impairment losses. Changes in fair value are recognised in profit or loss. Stocks Stocks are measured at the lower of cost and estimated selling price less costs to complete and sell. Cost is determined using the first-in, first-out method. The carrying amount of stocks sold is recognised as an expense when the related revenue is recognised. Provisions Provisions are recognised where a past event creates an obligation at the reporting date, settlement is likely to require a transfer of economic benefits, and the amount can be estimated reliably. Foreign currency translation Foreign currency transactions are initially translated at the exchange rate on the transaction date. Monetary balances are translated at the closing rate at the reporting date. Non-monetary items measured at historical cost retain the transaction-date rate. Exchange differences are recognised in profit or loss. Leased assets Leases transferring substantially all the risks and rewards of ownership are classified as finance leases; other leases are operating leases. Finance leases are initially recognised as assets and liabilities at the lower of the asset's fair value and the present value of minimum lease payments. Payments are apportioned between finance charges and reduction of the liability using the effective interest method. Leased assets are depreciated under the tangible fixed assets policy, or over the shorter lease term where ownership is not reasonably certain. Operating lease payments are expensed on a straight-line basis over the lease term. Pensions Contributions to defined contribution pension plans are expensed in the period to which they relate.
