Chairman's Report
for the Year Ended 31 March 2025
It gives me great pleasure to present my report for the year ending 31st of March 2025.
Thanks go to outgoing captain Brian Davidson, who has been very proactive in assisting the club in many matters. He has participated in many events and functions, and I know he has enjoyed his year, thank you Brian. Brian has invited Gareth Edmunds as his vice captain, who's experience in the business world will be of great assistance to us in the challenging times ahead, please give him your full support throughout his year.
I would like to thank both the Captain and the President, Jim Hughes for their respective weekends, both well run and popular. It has again been a challenging year with very different weather conditions, but I hope you can all agree Nigel Colley, our new head greenkeeper, has done a great job. He has plans for the future improvements of the course, which will be shared with members when finalized.
Membership continues to hold up well, and we are above budget on members with an influx of youth members, which bodes well for the club if we can keep this going. We also now have a booming junior membership which is already showing signs of success.
One area of concern is the ladies section which continues to decline we need to look at a way of increasing our lady membership which is not easy in these changing times. I must thank our professional Andrew Wells who has started this process with attracting 11 academy ladies who will hopefully make the transition to full members quite soon. Financially, the club is stable, but we must continue to press forward to increase revenues wherever we can.
We have seen an increase in weddings, funerals, and private bookings as the club is proving a popular venue. As previous years have shown us though there could be unexpected challenges ahead so we must focus on improving to be the best we can be.
I would like to thank all the members of the board who have worked hard through the year, remember these are all volunteers and give their time freely. Our caterer Pete Kirby has kept us supplied with food throughout the year and continues to cater very well for all the functions the club puts on.
I would like to thank Joanne our club manager who works hard throughout the year to make all the above run smoothly, there is much unseen work that Joanne carries out, she is now joined by assistant Guy Shrimpton. Guy is really enjoying the role and he is also a member.
As you may be aware the ongoing lease agreement is to be finalised, hopefully soon, and we will inform members as soon as possible.
Finally I would like to thank you the members for all your support throughout the year, without your support there would be no golf club. Many of you offer help with the juniors, maintenance, competitions etc.
Your help is very much appreciated.
